When the thought of Qtrove first germinated in early 2016, we had a vision and a single-minded focus on creating a community-driven two-sided trusted marketplace. This marketplace should be the melting pot of a diverse set of communities making natural and sustainable products out of passion and purpose, a marketplace which puts an end to the ‘Tyranny of Choice’, empowers local artisans, does not need the crutches of discounts and cashbacks, and creates a lifelong value to all the stakeholders. When the website went live for beta test in June 2016, Qtrove with its vivid visual imagery and an overall anti e-commerce approach was a breath of fresh air. It broke the stereotypes of unreasonable discounts, similar looking products, and mechanical shopping.
The challenge that we took was daunting. In this world of discounts, cashbacks, and cookie-cutter products, how would Qtrove maintain its edge and retain its competitive advantage was our constant raison d’etre. We broke the problem into parts and told ourselves that our POC (Proof of Concept) and PMF (Product Market Fit) will be complete if (i) Customers buy such natural, sustainable, and handmade products without discounts as they see long-term value proposition in them and Qtrove is the only place to get such products. (ii) Whether such customers will come back to us or not. After all, we are selling products that are good for the customer and the environment.
18 months later, 100,000+ customers from every State of India stamped their approval on the Qtrove concept. It was an overwhelming response and a good one at that! We had hit a home run and we took the baby steps from being a frugal, scrappy startup towards our next level of growth. Each company as it grows needs to reflect, realign and reassess its goals, priorities, and brand values as it scales up. Numbers become more daring, more wherewithal is needed, and the hunger to impact more lives definitely tops the charts. Ditto for Qtrove. We also realigned our vision in order to reach the next set of 5 million customers in 5 years.
Qtrove wants to be known as one company which brought a lot of positivity and happiness in one’s lives through shopping and community building for a better tomorrow. We wanted Qtrove to symbolise and spark a chain of goodness in whatever we do. Therefore, today we rebrand ourselves as The Shop for good people, by good people. We are The Shop for Good Things!
