What is Organic Green Tea: Health Benefits & Possible Side Effects

As you most of you know, organic green tea is a drink that is extremely healthy, as it comes with plenty of health benefits. It’s packed with anti-oxidants and nutrients that have a positive effect on your body. From fat loss to a lower risk of diseases, organic green tea can do wonders. However, as is the case with almost everything, too much of anything has negative effects. If you consume excessive amounts of green tea, keep in mind that it can also cause some problems. For example, if you have a low caffeine tolerance, you may experience some discomfort.

Before we get into detail of the benefits and possible side effects of green tea, let’s understand what Organic Green Tea is.

Green tea comes from the plant called Camellia Sinensis. The dried leaves and buds of this plant are used to produce most types of teas. However, green tea in particular is made by steaming and pan frying the plant’s leaves and then drying them. Unlike black tea, green tea does not go through fermentation, which is where the green colour comes from. Organic green tea especially is processed with only natural elements and methods.

Benefits:

Organic green tea contains bioactive compounds that have health benefits. The polyphenols such as, flavonoids and catechins are powerful antioxidants. The main antioxidant Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) is known to treat diseases, which is why green tea has medicinal properties.

If you want to have more energy and burn more fat, green tea will help, as it’s known to boost your metabolism. Studies state that it increases your energy levels, also because of the caffeine present. Caffeine normally mobilises fatty acids, which allows you to use more energy. Added to this, other studies suggest that green tea helps burn fat in the abdominal area. For instance, in one study where both men and women were drinking green tea, there were “significant decreases in body fat percentage, body weight, waist circumference and abdominal fat.”

The risk of cancer, diabetes and other diseases can be lower with green tea. Again, it’s all in the antioxidants, which reduce major risks. When it comes to diabetes, green tea’s alkaline properties help decrease the blood’s glucose level. Also, the antioxidant and astringent qualities of green tea ensure that the pancreas functions better, which results in regular secretion of insulin. Green tea’s polyphenols have cancer preventive agents, especially when it comes to breast, ovarian, colon, and prostate cancer. Added to that, our bodies have free radicals that can cause cancer. Green tea’s catechins neutralise these radicals, which is why green tea is being prescribed as a home remedy in order to reduce the risk of cancer.
